Machines that carry things into space
Machines that stay in orbit around Earth
Cameras, sensors, and communication systems
2 / 9
Satellites help us know the weather in advance
We use satellites every day to find our way
Phone calls and internet often use satellites
Satellites watch Earth and help keep us safe
3 / 9
Old satellites and rocket parts stay in orbit for many years.
We call these pieces space debris.
They move very fast and can hit working satellites.
4 / 9
Real example: In 2009 two satellites collided and created thousands of new pieces.
This also makes it harder to place new satellites in safe orbits.
5 / 9
The satellite carefully approaches the debris and throws a net to capture it.
A long tether uses Earth's magnetic field to slowly lower the orbit. Little rocket fuel is needed.

3D Simulation
Approach → Net Capture → Tether → Slow Deorbit
We will now show the full process using our 3D simulation
The net can catch objects that are spinning
Earth's magnetic field does most of the work
The tether reduces the need for rocket fuel
The satellite checks the target before capture
